Golden Eagles Walk Off With A Tight Victory

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team needed a clutch two-out hit from Spencer Sundahl on Saturday and that's exactly what they got.

Sundahl lined a sharp single into right field to drive in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and lift the Golden Eagles to a 5-4 win over Cal State San Marcos Saturday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (22-17, 19-15 CCAA) loaded the bases courtesy of two hit batters and a one-out walk and, after Andre Gregory lined out to center for the second out, Sundahl jumped on the first pitch he saw to win the game.

The Golden Eagles had left the bases loaded in the eighth inning so Sundahl's ninth-inning heroics were certainly appreciated.

Sundahl was largely responsible for the Golden Eagles' early 4-0 lead as he hit a three-run home run in the third inning to give Cal State LA an early lead.

Cal State San Marcos (17-23, 12-22) chipped away at the lead with a two-run home run from Aidan Stinnett in the fourth and eventually tied it after single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

George Alamillo pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up the win. Joey Deceglie started and allowed seven hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out five. Gabe Ramos allowed one run in his one inning of work.

Sundahl went 3-for-5 with four RBI to lead a nine-hit Cal State LA attack. Anthony Ayala, Gregory, Nic Bereaud, Jordan Peabody, Jorge Garcia and Noe Garcia also had hits for the Golden Eagles.

Stinnett was 3-for-5 with four RBI for the Cougars, who had 13 hits in the game. Cabot Van Til, Austin Ott and Michael Lopez had two hits each for Cal State San Marcos.

Cal State LA will conclude the four-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Cal State San Marcos starting at noon.
