Box Score SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's baseball team closed out its 2016 season with a 13-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino.
The Golden Eagles collected 18 hits and got a combined shutout from four pitchers to wind up with a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series split with the Coyotes. Cal State LA (16-31, 15-21 CCAA) needed to win three of four from the Coyotes (22-27, 17-20 CCAA) to earn a spot in the six-team CCAA Championship Tournament.
Cal State LA scored four runs in the first and never looked back. The Golden Eagles used a total of 18 players in the game, while the Coyotes used 20.
Ryan Welker was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while
Nick Osuna was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Jordan Cavazos was 2-for-5 with four RBI.
Nathan Navarrete was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and the Golden Eagles picked up pinch hits from
Daniel Diaz and
Ralph Ramirez.
Christian Broussard, Jr. pitched six shutout innings and allowed only two hits to pick up his third win of the season. He also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and had two RBI.
Kyle Villa,
Merrick Patito and
Holden Berger each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to complete the shutout.
Cal State LA scored four in the first, two in the fourth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth.
