RIVERSIDE – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team enjoyed its 2012 home opener with a second straight victory over California Baptist.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead after four innings and beat the Lancers, 8-0, Thursday evening at Reeder Field. Cal State L.A. (2-0) has scored 23 runs in its first two games against California Baptist (0-2). The Golden Eagles prevailed by a 15-5 count on Wednesday in Riverside.
Cal State L.A. collected 11 hits on Thursday and also benefitted from three California Baptist errors that led to five unearned runs.
Chad Nacapoy went 3-for-3 with one RBI, while
Daniel Duran and
James Wharton had two hits each.
Andrew Allen scored a pair of runs.
Zach Esquerra had two hits for the Lancers, who picked up eight hits.
Ryan Santhon had an outstanding start for the Golden Eagles, blanking the Lancers on two hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out six.
Jacob Valenzuela got the Golden Eagles out of a fifth-inning jam and worked 1 1/3 solid innings to get the win.

Justin Harr finished up on the mound for the Golden Eagles.
Jesse Arreola went three innings for the Lancers and gave up six hits and seven runs, although only three of them were earned. Andy Abrams did a nice job in relief, allowing only an unearned run over the final five innings.
The Golden Eagles broke the game open with a five-run second inning. Wharton led off with a single and
Manny Acosta reached on an infield hit. Allen then reached on an error to load the bases and
David Compton walked with the bases loaded to force in the game's first run. Acosta scored on a balk to make it 2-0.
Peter Straka grounded out to drive in a run to make it 3-0 and Nacapoy singled to stretch the lead to 4-0. Park singled in the final run to make it 5-0.
Cal State L.A. scored twice more in the third. Allen walked, took second on a single , moved to third on a walk to Nacapoy and two runs scored on an error on a grounder

Duran doubled and scored in the fourth inning to make it 8-0.
California Baptist got a run-scoring double from Esquerra for its first run in the sixth inning and tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings as well. Harr blanked the Lancers in the ninth inning to complete the win.
The third game of the four-game series will be held on Friday in Riverside. The series will conclude with a single game on Saturday at Cal State L.A.'s Reeder Field at 1 p.m.
