SEASIDE -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team picked up two hard-fought victories on Sunday to complete a four-game sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Golden Eagles got outstanding starting pitching from Rory Young and Camron Collard and posted 5-4 and 6-3 California Collegiate Athletic Association victories over the Otters Sunday at Otter Baseball Field. Cal State L.A. (12-10, 10-6 CCAA) has won a season-high six straight games.

Young pitched 6 1/3 innings in the opener and allowed six hits and two earned runs. He walked four and struck out two. After allowing single runs in the second and third innings, Young blanked the Otters over the remainder of his stint.

Anthony Lopez shut out the Otters in the eighth inning, but ran into some trouble in the ninth. Matt Stropoli came on and, after allowing a run-scoring single, got the final three outs to pick up the save.

Chris Matzner had two hits and drove in two runs for the Golden Eagles, who had only six hits in the game. Mario Ramirez also had two hits.

The Golden Eagles trailed, 2-0, before getting a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to take the lead for good. Mark Sunga drove in the run in the fourth with a fielder's choice to make it 2-1. Matzner tied it at 2-2 with a run-scoring single in the fifth and Cal State L.A. took the lead on a Cal State Monterey Bay throwing error.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead in the seven-inning nightcap. Jordan Castro hit a grand slam home run to highlight the inning. Castro was 2-for-2 in the game.

Cliff Quick had two hits and drove in a run and Matt Miraldi drove in the other run.

Miraldi singled in the first run of the game and Castro followed one out later with a grand slam.

Collard pitched six strong innings to get the win. He allowed only six hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out five.

Quick allowed two hits and one run in the seventh inning to wrap up the win. Jordan Smeds was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Otters (5-20, 1-15 CCAA).
