SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team completed a successful Northern California trip with another sterling defensive effort.
The Golden Eagles scored a goal in each half and posted their second straight shutout, a 2-0 win over San Francisco State Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at Cox Stadium. Cal State L.A. (6-0-1, 4-0-1 CCAA) started the trip with a 1-0 overtime win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday.
The two-goal margin of victory was the first of the season for the Golden Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the nation. Cal State L.A. had posted its first five victories by one goal, three of them in overtime.
Federico Cino scored his team-best fifth goal of the season in the 79th minute to stretch the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0. Cal State L.A. had taken a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on an own goal.

Tobias Hummel made four saves, while San Francisco State (4-3-1, 1-2-1 CCAA) got three saves from its goalie, Mike McNeill.
Cino was a consistent scoring threat for the Golden Eagles and took a team-best five shots.

Miguel Cucue,
Mauricio Barrett and
Spencer Tripp had two shots each.
The Golden Eagles controlled play in the first half, allowing only two shots, neither of which were on target. The only goal of the first half, though, came on an own goal.
The Gators got their first shot on goal in the 53rd minute when a header by Spencer Schwandt was saved by Hummel. San Francisco State had another shot on goal in the 77th minute that Hummel saved.
Cal State L.A. extended its lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute when Cino drilled a shot from about 10 yards out into the upper left corner of the goal.
Jason Swope had the assist, his third of the season.
The Golden Eagle defense took it from there. Hummel faced only two more shots, one by Arnol Arceta that he saved in the 86th minute.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Wednesday with a home match against Cal State Dominguez Hills, the first of three home contests next week.
