Golden Eagles Earn Academic All-District Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team had three members named to the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District team,  the College Sports Communicators organization announced on Tuesday.

A trio of newcomers - Leon Steffen, Angel Sevillano and Evan Yoell - earned the recognition for the Golden Eagles.

The awards honor student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program (formerly known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America program) recognizes men's soccer honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90% of the team's games or started at least 66 percent of their institution's games.

Steffen, a junior defender, appeared in 18 of the Golden Eagles' 19 games with seven starts. He played a total of 745 minutes. He is a business management major and carries a 3.87 grade point average. He earned Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition at Division I La Salle in 2024 and was on the School of Business Dean's List each semester at the school.

Yoell, a junior defender, appeared in all 19 games for the Golden Eagles with 17 starts. He played a total of 1,264 minutes, which was third among all position players. He earned first-team All-Orange Empire Conference honors twice while at Fullerton College before joining the Cal State LA program. He is a business marketing major and carries a 3.71 grade point average.

Sevillano, a senior defender, appeared and started in 18 of the Golden Eagles' 19 games and had one assist for one point. He was second on the team in minutes played with 1,435. He earned California Collegiate Athletic Association Fall Honor Roll recognition at San Francisco State in 2024 and earned first-team All-Empire Conference honors in 2022 and 2023. He is a business administration major and carries a 3.51 grade point average.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.

The Golden Eagles' three honorees helped Cal State LA to another strong season in 2025. The Golden Eagles finished with an 8-4-7 overall record and reached the CCAA Tournament and the NCAA Division II playoffs.
