LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Alex Mendez was named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-West Region first team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Mendez was instrumental in helping the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA playoffs for an eighth straight year and for the 13th time in the past 14 seasons and finish the 2025 season with an 8-3-7 record.
Mendez started all 17 games he played in during the 2025 season and led the team with five goals, two assists and 12 points.
He was joined on the 11-player first team by goalkeeper Angel Ruiz Hernandez of Stanislaus State, defenders Ndifor Ginyui of Cal State Dominguez Hills, Koki Hamada of Hawaii-Hilo, Ian Reis of Stanislaus State and Samuel Villanueva of Stanislaus State, midfielders Yahir Ocampo of Western Oregon and Sergio Valenzuela of Cal State Dominguez Hills and forwards Emmenuel Duran of Stanislaus State, Gerardo Flores of Stanislaus State and Cole Friesen of Point Loma.
An additional 11 players were named to the second team.
With Mendez making the first team, Cal State LA has now had at least one player earn first-team All-Region honors in 17 straight seasons, a streak that began in 2008.
The United Soccer Coaches All-America team will be announced later this week.
