Men's Soccer

Golden Eagles Welcome Large Group For Alumni Day

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer program welcomed back 41 former Golden Eagles last week for its annual Alumni Game on the North Grass Fields, bringing together generations of alumni for a meaningful day of competition, connection and pride.

For one afternoon, the North Grass Fields became more than just a place to play. They became a gathering place for the history of Cal State LA men's soccer.

Former Golden Eagles from across several decades returned to campus, representing classes from the early 1980s through the most recent era of the program. Some came back years after their final game, while others returned only shortly after finishing their playing careers. Together, they helped create a powerful reminder of what it means to be part of the Cal State LA men's soccer family.

The day was filled with familiar faces, shared memories and the unmistakable competitive spirit that has helped define the Golden Eagles through the years. Teammates reunited, different generations connected and the program's proud tradition on full display.

Following the game, the celebration continued with a mixer that gave current Golden Eagles the opportunity to meet, connect with and learn from the alumni who helped shape the program. The gathering created a special bridge between past and present, allowing current players to hear stories, build relationships and gain a deeper appreciation for the legacy they now represent.

"We are incredibly grateful to all of our alumni who came back and made this such a special day for our program," Cal State LA head coach Michael Erush said. "The community we have here is something we are very proud of, and events like this show just how strong the bond is between our past and present players. There is a championship pedigree in this group, and when you look at the alumni team, there are a lot of trophies represented out there. Those players helped build the standard, and it means a great deal to have them back around our current team."

Among those in attendance was Simon Johansen, a member of the Class of 2025 who played for the Golden Eagles from 2021-24 and scored the game-winning goal in Cal State LA's historic 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship victory over Charleston. His presence, along with so many others, served as a reminder of the championship moments, lifelong friendships and lasting impact created through the program.

The alumni in attendance represented the foundation, growth, and continued success of Cal State LA men's soccer. Their return to campus made the event more than a game — it was a celebration of legacy, brotherhood and the enduring pride of being a Golden Eagle.

Cal State LA men's soccer would like to thank all of the alumni who attended and helped make the event a memorable success:
