Biography

2023: Had another outstanding season in his final year with the program. Earned first-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches and second-team honors from the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Was named the D2 CCA West Region Player of the Year and earned first-team All-West Region honors from the D2 CCA and United Soccer Coaches. Was named the CCAA Player of the Year and the CCAA Midfielder of the Year. Earned first-team All-CCAA honors and was named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team. Appeared in 21 games with 21 starts for the Golden Eagles. Played a total of 1,512 minutes, which was second on the team. Had five goals and three assists for 13 points. Was third on the team in goals and third in points. Scored his first goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Point Loma on Sept. 16. Had game-winning goals in back-to-back 1-0 wins at Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 8 and Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 10. Was named the CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-15. Also had the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in a NCAA Super Region 4 semifinal on Dec. 1 in Texas and assisted on a goal by Carl Solli in the first half of the Super Region 4 championship game on Dec. 3. For his career, appeared in 41 games, all starts, and played a total of 2,700 minutes. Had 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points.

2022: Had a sensational season in his first year with the program. Earned first-team All-West Region honors from the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team All-CCAA honors. Was also named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team after helping the Golden Eagles capture the conference tournament title. Started all 20 games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of 1,188 minutes. Was second on the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 16 points. Shared the team-lead in goals. Made his Cal State LA debut and scored his first goal in a 6-0 win over Saint Martin’s on Aug. 25. Scored the Golden Eagles’ second goal in the 14th minute of the game. Had a two-goal game in a 4-0 win over San Francisco State on Oct. 16. Scored the team’s second goal in the ninth minute and the third goal in the 47th minute. Had one of the team’s biggest goals of the season, notching the game winner against Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA Tournament championship game on Nov. 6. Broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 54th minute. Had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win over Biola on Sept. 7. Scored the opening goal of the game in the 23rd minute and got an assist on Marlon Radel’s game-winner in the 69th minute. Got the game’s first goal in a 2-1 win at Cal State East Bay on Oct. 23. Recorded an assist on the game-tying goal by Bryan Ortega in the 66th minute of a 2-2 tie against Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 9. Earned a 2022-23 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Also earned 2022 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. Was named Cal State LA’s Newcomer of the Year.

At El Camino College: Earned second-team Scholar All-American honors. Was named to the CCCAA All-Region team as a sophomore. Appeared and started in 41 games in his career for the Warriors. Moved from defense to the midfield for his sophomore season and was second on the team with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. Earned first-team All-SCC South Division honors both years with the program. Was his team’s Most Valuable Player.

At Leuzinger High School: Played one year on the varsity soccer team as a senior and was on the school’s Honor Roll.

Personal: Son of Rogelio and Elvia Diaz. Majoring in computer information systems. Enjoys hiking and watching movies. Lists winning the National Cup and then traveling to Hawaii and competing in the Far West Regionals and winning the CCAA Tournament with Cal State LA as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he is the first in his family to compete in college sports.
