Cal State LA Athletics

2024: Had his best season for the Golden Eagles in his second and final year with the program. Appeared in 17 games with 14 starts. Played a total of 1,074 minutes. Had one goal and two assists for four points. Earned California Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 5-8 after helping the Golden Eagles to a season-opening 2-0 shutout at Fresno Pacific on Sept. 5. Played all 90 minutes to lead the way. Picked up his first career goal by getting the game-tying score in the 82^nd minute of a 2-1 win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Oct. 13. Recorded an assist on a goal by Andrew Portis in the 26^th minute of a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 28. Also got an assist on a goal by Oscar Warne in a 4-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in an NCAA Tournament game in University Stadium on Nov. 24. Earned 2024 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his career, appeared in 32 games with 17 starts. Played a total of 1,472 minutes. Had one goal and four assists for six points.

2023: Made an immediate impact for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Appeared in 15 games with three starts. Played a total of 398 minutes. Made his Cal State LA debut and played 20 minutes in a 1-0 win over Regis on Aug. 31. Made his first career start for the Golden Eagles and picked up an assist on a goal by Oscar Warne in the 11^th minute of a 3-0 win at Sonoma State on Oct. 27. Also got an assist on a goal by Rene Cortez in the 43^rd minute of a 4-2 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Nov. 2. Played a season-high 86 minutes in the win at Sonoma State on Oct. 27. Earned 2023 CCAA Honor Roll recognition.

At Cal State Bakersfield: Appeared in 33 games with 15 starts over two seasons. Had three goals and one assist for seven points. Had two goals and one assist in 2022. Played a total of 1,456 minutes. Earned Academic All-Big West Conference honors both seasons.

At Olympian High School: Competed in soccer.

Personal: Son of Jose and Ofelia Cortez. Majoring in liberal studies. Enjoys outdoor sports and hanging out with friends. Lists winning the conference and conference tournament last year as his most exciting experiences in sports.
