Cal State LA Athletics

2023: Had another outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in his second and final year with the program. Appeared in 18 games with 10 starts and played a total of 966 minutes. Had two assists. Got the opening-game start and played a career-high 82 minutes in a 1-0 win over Regis on Aug. 31. Started the first 10 games of the season before missing three weeks due to injury. Picked up the assist on the game-winning goal by Oliver Diaz in a 1-0 win at Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 8. Also got an assist on a goal by Carl Solli in a 3-0 win at Sonoma State on Oct. 27. Played for the Golden Eagles in all five postseason games. Earned 2023-24 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and 2023 Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. Also earned a 2023-24 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. For his career, appeared in 33 games with 11 starts. Played a total of 1,295 minutes. Recorded two assists.

2022: Made important contributions in his first year with the program. Appeared in 15 games with one start. Played a total of 329 minutes. Made his Cal State LA debut and also made his first start while playing a season-high 49 minutes in a 6-0 win over Saint Martin’s on Aug. 25. Also played 41 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 23 and 40 minutes in a 3-1 win at Azusa Pacific on Sept. 10. Played in nine of Cal State LA’s 11 conference games. Earned a 2022-23 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and 2022-23 CCAA All-Academic honors. Also received 2022 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition.

At Fullerton College: Earned All-Conference, All Region and All-State honors both seasons with the program. Had four goals and five assists for 13 points in 2021 and four goals and 10 assists in 2018 while helping the team to a conference title.

At Fullerton High School: Competed in soccer, cross country and track and field. Was the Freeway League Offensive Player of the Year and team Most Valuable Player three years in a row.

Personal: Son of Jose Perez and Sara Guerrero. Majoring in civil engineering. Enjoys playing the drums, going to the golfing range, hiking, lifting and biking with his dad. Lists winning the Orange Empire Conference title at Fullerton College for the school’s first title in 26 years as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he has two lovely sisters and two amazing brothers.
