Biography

2022: Had another strong season in his final year with the program. Appeared in 39 games and started 33. Hit .311 with 38 hits in 122 at bats. Drove in 23 runs and scored 16. Collected a career-high four hits in a win at San Francisco State on May 6. Went 2-for-5 with a career-high four RBI in a win at San Francisco State on May 5. Went 2-for-4 with a career-high three runs scored at Cal State San Marcos on March 7. Hit safely in 25 games and had 10 multi-hit games. Earned 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic and 2022 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his career, appeared in 49 games with 43 starts. Hit .308 with 48 hits in 156 at bats. Scored 24 runs and had 24 RBI. Had an on-base percentage of .391 and a slugging percentage of .365.


2021: Earned 2020-21 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and also received 2021 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2020: Was having a strong first year with the Golden Eagles before the season was halted. Started in 10 of the team’s 18 games at catcher. Hit .294 with 10 hits in 34 at bats. Scored eight runs and drove in one. Had two doubles and one triple. Was tied for third on the team in runs scored. Made his Cal State LA debut and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in an 8-2 win over Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 7. Went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a 9-7 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Feb. 16. Hit safely in six of his last seven starts, including the final three of the season. Had three multi-hit games. Earned 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic and 2020 CCAA Spring All-Academic honors.

At University of Antelope Valley: Earned the Champion of Character Award. Team won conference titles in both years he was on the team and advanced to the NAIA World Series in 2018.

At Prepa Tec de Monterrey QRO: Earned the Borrego Dorado Award for baseball.

Personal: Son of Pedro Castaneda and Ana Maria Bello. Majoring in international business. Enjoys traveling, riding bicycles and reading. Lists reaching the NAIA World Series and being a Champion of Character as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he was born and raised in Mexico. Says he’s looking forward to the 2022 season.
