Cal State LA Athletics

2023: Had another successful season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in all 22 games and made two starts. Played a total of 603 minutes. Had one goal for two points. Scored the third goal of the game late in the first half of a 5-0 win over San Francisco State on Sept. 29. Played a career-high 68 minutes in a 5-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 15. Made his first start of the season in a 3-0 win at Biola on Sept. 9 and made his second start in a 3-2 win over Stanislaus State on Oct. 22. Game featured a matchup between twins – Eduardo’s brother Sebastian was the starting goalie for the Warriors. For his career, appeared in 69 games with three starts. Played a total of 1,873 minutes. Had three goals and one assist for seven points.

2022: Had another strong season for the Golden Eagles and was a key member of the team. Played in all 20 games and was a major contributor off the bench. Played a total of 538 minutes. Made his season debut and played 42 minutes in a 6-0 win over Saint Martin’s on Aug. 25. Also played 42 minutes in a 2-0 win at Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 6. Played a season-high 47 minutes in a 4-0 win at Stanislaus State on Oct. 21. Played 37 outstanding minutes in 2-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship match on Nov. 6.

2021: Was a major contributor for the national champions and showed tremendous improvement. Appeared in a career-high 22 games and made his first start. Played a total of 668 minutes. Had one goal and one assist for three points. Had the goal and the assist in a 3-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 22. Broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 72^nd minute and had an assist on a goal by Gonzalo Talavera to make it 2-0 in the 75^th minute. The goal came on a beautiful strike on a free kick. Made his first career start and played 39 minutes in a 3-1 win at San Francisco State on Oct. 1. Played a career-high 58 minutes in the win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 22. Played 35 big minutes in the 1-0 win over Charleston in the national championship game. Was Cal State LA’s recipient of the 2021-22 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award, an award presented by the CCAA for exemplary commitment to athletic and academic pursuits.

2020: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Contributed for the Golden Eagles and appeared in five games. Had one goal and two points. Made his Cal State LA debut and scored a goal in a 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 5. Played a season-high 22 minutes in a 5-1 win over Stanislaus State on Sept. 27.

2018: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any games for the Golden Eagles and was a redshirt.

At Vista Murrieta High School: Competed in soccer and football.

Personal: Son of Jaime Castellanos and Silvia Echavarria. Graduated with a degree in business administration and is currently a grad student. Enjoys golf and wine tasting. Lists winning the national championship with Cal State LA in 2021 as his most exciting experience in sports. Played for the US Soccer Development Academy with Arsenal FC, FC Golden State and Nomads FC. Notes his twin brother, Sebastian, is a goalkeeper at Stanislaus State. Says he is an aspiring wine sommelier. Served as Cal State LA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice-President in 2022.
