Golden Eagles Enjoy Success At Twilight Open

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed great success Thursday at the Cal State LA Twilight Open.

The Golden Eagles had nine event victories and several other runners who took first place in their heats. 

Dalia Romo had the top performance of the day, improving her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark while winning the 400 hurdles with a personal best time of 60.80. She had one of seven wins for the women's team.

Freshman Keiasja Carbins won the 100 meters with a season's best time of 12.11, while Summer Stevenson was third with a season's best time of 12.28.

Delia Bocanegra, an All-CCAA women's soccer player at Cal State LA, continued to excel in her track career, winning the 800 meters with a season's best time of 2:16.30.

Cecille Lightbourn won the triple jump with a mark of 37-1 and the 4x100 relay team of Ski'lar Wallace, Emmerson Wiggins, Sydney Holmes and Carbins won with a season's best time of 47.07.

Marina Zeferino won the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:03.97 and the 4x400 relay team of Wiggins, Romo, Jaylin Morgan and Jewel Perry won in 3:57.02.
 
Wiggins also had a pair of season's bests after finishing third in the 200 in 24.45 and third in the 400 in 56.84 while also running on two winning relay teams..

Nicholas Delgado won the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:58.03 and Cahari Allen on the triple jump with a mark of 44-8.25.

Drew Hill was just off his season's best in the 100 while finishing fourth in 10.38 and Wallace Aflamah was sixth in 10.53. Nicholas Aninze had a strong finish in the 400, placing second with a time of 48.43.

Gabriel Pearson was second in the 400 hurdles in 54.54 and Maximus Alvarez was second in the shot put.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays in the Golden Eagles' final competition before the CCAA Championships.that begin on April 30
