Defending Champs Deliver Win No. 1 For Coach Erush

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team wasted little time presenting new head coach Michael Erush with victory No. 1.

The Golden Eagles rushed out to a 4-0 halftime lead and went on to a 6-0 win over Saint Martin's Thursday night on the campus of Simon Fraser in Erush's first game as Cal State LA's head coach. The defending NCAA Division II champions had a 15-4 advantage in shots and scored twice in the first 14 minutes to take early control of the contest.

Alvaro Unanua made two saves in the first 68 minutes before turning things over to Julian Aadlandsvik, who completed the shutout with 22 minutes of action in his Cal State LA debut.

Six different players scored for the Golden Eagles, who stretched their unbeaten streak to 19 games dating back to last season.

Newcomer Marlon Radel opened the scoring when he headed in a corner kick from Manuel Garcia in the seventh minute. Cal State LA capitalized on another corner kick, this one from Daniel Garcia, which was converted into a goal by Oliver Diaz. Both Daniel Garcia and Diaz are newcomers.

Lucas Rosales made it 3-0 after a steal and a beautiful shot inside the post in the 30th minute and newcomer Jacob Chong made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute with a spectacular sharp-angle shot just inside the far post.

Cal State LA added a pair of goals in the second half. Newcomer Bryan Ortega scored early in the second half to make it 5-0 and Aidan Wait completed the scoring with a goal in the 77th minute.

Cal State LA will return to action with a big game against host Simon Fraser. The Golden Eagles will be looking for their first-ever win over Simon Fraser in their fourth all-time meeting.
