LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team had a rough day Friday in the opener of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, but the Toros scored in each of the final eight innings to post a 20-4 victory Friday at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (4-12, 3-9 CCAA) got a home run from
Michael Tillman and the first career hit and RBI from Wilem Drozdiwski in the loss.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-9, 5-8 CCAA) collected 23 hits, including a home run from Pierson Loska, who scored three runs and two RBI. Jeremy Ciolek went 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
Noe Garcia had a pair of hits for the Golden Eagles, while
Tyler Odekirk went 1-for-3 with a run scored and
Nic Sandoval had an RBI.
Nick Moisant started for the Golden Eagles and battled into the fifth. He gave up four runs in the first four innings and left in the fifth.
Johnny Virgen got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and allowed one run over two innings. Julian Garcia,
Matt Miao and
Brent Jacques finished up on the mound.
Tristan Garnett allowed six hits and only two earned run over six innings for the Toros.
The two teams combined for seven errors that led to nine unearned runs.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. game at Reeder Field. The series will conclude with a doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday beginning at noon.
