SEASIDE -- Cal State LA's baseball team had to endure a long day at the ballpark Saturday against Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Golden Eagles were overwhelmed by the Otters and fell in a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader by scores of 15-2 and 12-2. Cal State LA (2-8, 1-5 CCAA) has lost the first three games of a four-game CCAA series at Cal State Monterey Bay (7-6, 5-2 CCAA).
Nate Alam had two hits, both doubles, in the opener, while
Adam Gordon was 2-4 with one run scored.
Anthony Moreno was 2-for-3 and
Zachary Grande was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Miguel Garcia started on the mound for the Golden Eagles, but lasted only into the second inning. He was charged with five hits and six runs while walking four and striking out one.
Jackson Bond went four innings and gave up 12 hits and eight runs, while
Brent Jacques didn't allow a hit over the final three innings and gave up one run while walking two and striking out two.
In the seven-inning nightcap, the Golden Eagles scored both of their runs in the seventh inning.
Tyler Odekirk went 1-for-3 with one RBI,
Nic Sandoval was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Moreno was 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Nick Moisant got the start and went three innings, allowing six hits and six runs.
Johnny Virgen allowed one run in one inning and
Matt Miao went the final two innings.
After Moreno doubled in the seventh, Sandoval singled him in for the first Cal State LA run. Odekirk had a run-scoring double to drive in Sandoval.
Cal State LA will conclude the series with Cal State Monterey on Sunday at 11 a.m.
