Golden Eagles Unable To Salvage Series Finale

SEASIDE -- Cal State LA's baseball team turned in a better performance on Sunday in the finale of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series at Cal State Monterey Bay, but the Golden Eagles were unable to salvage a victory.

The Golden Eagles tried to rally from a late 4-0 deficit, but the Otters were able to slam the door to record a 4-2 victory and complete a series sweep. Cal State LA (2-9, 1-6 CCAA) scored twice in the eighth to cut the deficit in half, but couldn't get any closer.

Spencer Sundahl went 2-for-4 with both RBI, while Noe Garcia went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Aaron McCann scored the other run.

Alec Daily started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and allowed two hits and two runs in 4 2/3 innings. He was able to largely work around nine walks while striking out two. Micah Hee allowed four hits and two runs over three innings and Julian Garcia got the final out of the eighth inning for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State Monterey Bay (8-6, 6-2 CCAA) got a two-run home run from Brian Morley, who had a huge series for the Otters against the Golden Eagles.

The Otters scored single runs in the first and third innings and then took a 4-0 lead in the seventh inning on a two-run home run from Morley.

Cal State LA struck for two runs in the top of the eighth. McCann reached on an error and Garcia singled to right. Sundahl delivered a two-out, two-run single to make things interesting, but that's as close as the Golden Eagles would get.

Cal State LA will begin a four-game, split-site series against Cal Poly Pomona with a single game on Thursday in Pomona. The Golden Eagles will host a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
