Golden Eagles Finish Weekend With A Victory

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team wrapped up a busy weekend with a Sunday victory over Saint Katherine College.
 
The Golden Eagles made it four wins in four nine-inning games over the weekend with a 15-2 victory over Saint Katherine College at Reeder Field. Cal State L.A. (5-2) won two games against the University of British Columbia and two games against Saint Katherine College over the past three days.
 
Icezack Flemming worked five innings to pick up the win. He gave up five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out seven. Reed Reznicek, Greg Humbert, Marcos Casillas and Chris Oropesa each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Golden Eagles.
 
Cal State L.A. scored in seven of its eight at bats and picked up 22 hits. Ryan Dixon was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, while David Trejo was 3-for-4 and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Kyle Peralta hit a two-run home run, while Josh Guerra, Lawrence Dominguez, Paul Martinez and Rodrigo Martinez had two hits each. Trent Zaks had three RBI.
 
Cody Gracco was 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI for Saint Katherine College (0-2). Trevor Collins pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
 
Saint Katherine College took a 1-0 in the first inning when David Castilla was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Gracco. Flemming, though, got out of the inning on a comebacker to escape further damage.
 
The Golden Eagles took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Anthony Lombardo tied the game with a sacrifice fly and the second run scored on an error.
 
Peralta hit a two-run home run to start a five-run second inning. Dixon had a two-run double in the inning as well.
 
Trejo tripled in a run in the third to make it 8-1 and Zaks had a three-run double in the fourth inning to make it 11-2. Ryan Welker drove in a run in the seventh and Rodrigo Martinez and Guerra drove in runs in the eighth inning to complete the scoring for the Golden Eagles.
 
Cal State L.A. will open California Collegiate Athletic Association action on Friday at 6 p.m. in the opener of a four-game series against Sonoma State.
