LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team used some late-game heroics from Jeremy Weber to finish its four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal Poly Pomona in style.

Weber belted a game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Golden Eagles to a big 3-2 victory over Cal Poly Pomona Sunday at Reeder Field. The win gave the Golden Eagles a 3-1 series win over the Broncos and enabled them to stay in a fourth-place tie in the conference with Cal State Stanislaus.

Cal State L.A. (22-16, 18-14) also pulled one game ahead of Sonoma State and Cal Poly Pomona (27-18, 19-17) in the tight CCAA standings. The Golden Eagles are also just one game out of second place and four games back of conference-leading UC San Diego.

Weber had a huge hand in what happened on Sunday. He made a potential game-saving play in the top of the ninth inning when he robbed Cal Poly Pomona's Jenzen Torres of extra bases by racing over and snaring a drive near the left-centerfield wall with two on and two out. Then, after the Golden Eagles had squandered scoring chances in the ninth and 10th inning, he drilled the one-out home run to right-center that won it.

Weber was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Chad Nacapoy was 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.

The game was exciting and tight throughout. Cal State L.A. got two runs in the second inning, but Cal Poly Pomona tied it with single runs in the third and seventh innings and the game remained tied until Weber's home run.

Justin Harr pitched eight strong innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing seven hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out six. Jacob Valenzuela, Sergio Luna and Cedar Morgan each pitched one scoreless inning of relief. Valenzuela stranded two runners in the ninth, Luna got out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th and Morgan got his second strikeout of the inning to get out of some two-out trouble in the 11th.

Erick Ruvalcaba went 10 strong innings for the Broncos. He allowed 11 hits and two runs and blanked the Golden Eagles over his final eight innings of work.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second with a pair of two-out runs. Nacapoy singled in Nick Rodarte with the first run and he later scored on a single by Weber.

Cal Poly Pomona got a run in the third with a run-scoring single from Joseph Eusebio and tied it in the seventh with a bunt single by Chris Curtis playing a key role. Donald Walter wound up driving in the tying run on a fielder's choice when Harr's throw to the plate after a grounder was unable to get Nicholas Cooksey.

Weber's blast then put a quick and dramatic end to the contest. Cal Poly Pomona stranded 15 runners in the game, while Cal State L.A. left 11 on base.

Cal State L.A. will begin a four-game series at conference-leading UC San Diego on Thursday. The series will continue with a single game in La Jolla on Friday and conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader at Reeder Field beginning at 1 p.m.
