The Golden Eagles picked up three wins on the day, finishing up a win in a game suspended from Saturday and then sweeping the regularly-scheduled doubleheader, 7-4 and 10-1 at Reeder Field.
Cal State L.A. (9-3, 4-0 CCAA) swept the series from San Francisco State (5-5, 0-4 CCAA).
The Golden Eagles started the day by finishing off a 7-3 victory in a game suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning by rain on Saturday with the Golden Eagles leading, 6-0.
David Arredondo pitched five scoreless innings – all on Saturday – to get the victory.
Kamakani Usui allowed three unearned runs over three innings and
Daniel Duran struck out the side in the ninth inning.
Brian Moon was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and
Chris Matzner had a pair of RBI. Trevor Pasiecznik had a pair of hits and two RBI for the Gators. Jason Ochart did a nice job in relief, allowing only one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings of work.
Cal State L.A. then took the opener of the regularly-scheduled doubleheader, 7-4.
Jacob Valenzuela worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his third win of the season, while
Thomas Landeros pitched two hitless innings and earned his fourth save of the year.
Nic Branaugh carried a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning for the Gators, but Cal State L.A. scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.
Chad Nacapoy doubled and scored on a single by
Joe Park to start the rally.
Jordan Castro singled in Nacapoy following a walk to Moon. Matzner singled in a run to make it 5-3 and
Cliff Quick doubled in a run to make it 5-4. Matzner scored on the play following a throwing error to tie the game. Duran singled up the middle to drive in Quick with the go-ahead run.
Park added a run-scoring single in the eighth to finish the scoring.
In the nightcap, the Golden Eagles scored three times in the second, four times in the third and three times in the fourth to break the game open.
Gabriel Asakura went four innings to get the win. He allowed only two hits and one run, while walking five and striking out seven.
Noe Flores was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while
Manny Acosta was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Duran and Park both drove in two runs.
Park had a two-run triple to highlight a three-run second inning. The Golden Eagles got run-scoring doubles from Quick and Flores, a run-scoring single from
Brian Compton and a run-scoring double from Duran to highlight the four-run third inning.
Cal State L.A. added three runs in the fourth on a bases-clearing double from Acosta.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Thursday with the opener of a four-game series against Cal State San Bernardino at Reeder Field beginning at 2 p.m.
