Cal State LA Athletics

2025: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Appeared in 16 games, all in relief, and was one of the top relievers in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Had a 5-1 record with five saves and a 1.80 earned run average. Walked 17 and struck out 23 in 30 innings pitched. Made his Cal State LA debut and got the win with a season-long four shutout innings in a 5-2 win at Vanguard on Feb. 1. Allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out a season-high four. Also struck out four in three scoreless innings in an 8-7 win in 13 innings over Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 28. Recorded his first save at Cal State LA with 1 1/3 hitless innings in a 5-4 win at Stanislaus State on March 8. Picked up saves in back-to-back wins at Cal Poly Pomona. Tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to preserve a 13-12 win on March 21 and pitched a scoreless inning to lock down an 11-9 win in 14 innings on March 22. Got his final two saves in back-to-back appearances late in the season. Threw a scoreless inning in a 5-4 win over Cal State San Bernardino on April 25 and got out the final three outs in a 10-9 victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills on May 2. Improved to 2-0 with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in an 8-7 win over Regis on Feb. 21. Recorded a win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings in a 9-7 win over San Francisco State on March 16 and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in an 8-6 win over Sonoma State on March 30. Picked up an important win by throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings in a 3-2 11-inning win at Chico State on April 19 that gave the Golden Eagles a series split. Had scoreless outings in 12 appearances and gave up one run or less in 14 appearances.

At Quartz Hill High School: Earned second-team All-CIF honors and was the Golden League Pitcher of the Year. Also earned first-team All-Golden League honors and was the team’s Pitcher of the Year in 2024 and 2023. Had a 9-1 record and a 1.02 earned run average in 2024 with 99 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings.

Personal: Son of Daniel and Claudia Quintero Sr. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys working out, fishing and car mechanic work. Lists playoff games and gritty W’s as his most exciting experiences in sports. Twin brother Isaac is also on the roster and Ismael notes he is the older one.
