Cal State LA Athletics

2026: Made a tremendous comeback for the Golden Eagles in his second and final season with the program. Made the team after two years away and contributed in impressive fashion. Appeared in 28 games and started 18 times. Hit .320 with 24 hits in 75 at bats. Had four home runs, 24 runs batted in and 16 runs scored. Made his return for Cal State LA and drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance in a 16-1 win at Hawaii Pacific on Jan. 30. Went 2-for-5 with a home run and a career-high five runs batted in at Cal State San Bernardino on March 21. Came back the next day and collected a career-high three hits with a home run and three runs batted in and scored a career-high three runs. Hit a dramatic go-ahead three-run home run in an 8-4 win over Chico State on March 29. Hit a grand slam home run in a 15-5 win at Cal State East Bay on April 2. Also had a go-ahead two-run single to spark a four-run eighth inning rally in a 13-10 win over Stanislaus State on March 14. Hit safely in 14 games and had eight multi-hit games. Earned 2025-26 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and 2026 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his career, appeared in 39 games with 24 starts. Hit .265 with 26 hits in 98 at bats. Had four home runs, 27 RBI and 18 runs scored. Hit safely in 16 games with eight multi-hit games.

2023: Made contributions for the Golden Eagles in his first year with the program. Appeared in 11 games with six starts. Hit .087 with two hits in 23 at bats. Drove in three runs and scored two. Made his Cal State LA debut and got his first start in a 15-2 win over Providence Christian on Feb. 2. Hit a two-run double in the fifth inning of the win. Also had a hit and drove in a run with a third-inning single in an 8-4 win over The Master’s on Feb. 3.

At Point Loma: Appeared in 36 games with 22 starts in two seasons with the Sea Lions. Appeared in 25 games with 15 starts in 2022 and helped the Sea Lions reach the NCAA Division II championship game. Hit .293 for his career with the Sea Lions with 22 hits in 75 at bats. Had one home run, 10 RBI and 15 runs scored. Had an on-base percentage of .458 in 2022.

At University High School: Competed in baseball and football. Earned first-team All-League honors once and second-team All-League honors twice. Graduated cum laude.

Personal: Son of Pat and Velva Axtell. Majoring in business management. Enjoys camping, fishing and golf. Lists hitting his first home run as a kid as his most exciting experience in sports.
