LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Ismael Quintero has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 6-12, the conference announced on Monday.
Â
Quintero tossed a career-high seven shutout innings and helped Cal State LA post its first nine-inning shutout since 2018 in a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills last Thursday in the opener of a four-game conference series.
Â
The 2025 CCAA Freshman of the Year, who pitched in relief last season, allowed only three hits - all singles - with two walks and seven strikeouts. He ended the game not allowing a hit in the final four innings, while retiring 12 of the final 13 batters he faced.Â
Â
The Lancaster native is now third in the CCAA in strikeouts (49) and sixth in innings pitched (46.1).
Â
This is the first career CCAA Pitcher of the Week award for Quintero, and the first for Cal State LA in 2026. Cal State LA picked up a Player of the Week Award earlier this season when
Cesar Chavez received weekly honors for the week of March 9-15.
Â
Quintero is the first Cal State LA pitcher to earn weekly honors since
AJ Moreno won the award for the week of April 28-May 3, 2025.
The Golden Eagles (23-18, 13-11 CCAA) will be at home this week to host Cal Poly Pomona (23-15, 15-9 CCAA) in a critical four-game series, starting on Friday, April 17. All four games are scheduled to be available on FloCollege.Â
