LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Ismael Quintero has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week honors, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Quintero, who earned California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week accolades on Monday, was honored for his outstanding efforts last Thursday in a series-opening 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Quintero tossed seven shutout innings and teamed up with reliever
Jared Robles for the first nine-inning shutout for Cal State LA since May 5, 2018.
Quintero allowed only three hits - all singles - with two walks and seven strikeouts. In the longest start of his career, the 2025 CCAA Freshman of the Year ended the game by retiring 12 of the last 13 batters he faced over four hitless innings.
Quintero is now third in the CCAA in strikeouts with 49 and sixth in innings pitched with 46 1/3.
He is the first Cal State LA player to earn West Region weekly honors this season.
Cal State LA took three of four games against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles will return to action with a big four-game series against Cal Poly Pomona beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. at Reeder Field.
