LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team was a gracious host Monday to Japan's Waseda University in an exhibition game at Reeder Field.
The Golden Eagles exchanged pleasantries - and presents - with the touring Japanese team that is on a five-game swing of Southern California. Waseda put on an impressive showing in a 17-1 win over the Golden Eagles in Game 3 of their swing. After a loss to Stanford and wins over Santa Clara and Cal State LA, Wasada will finish up with games at Long Beach State on Tuesday and USC on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles got two hits each from
Isaiah Munoz and
Steven Mara and the lone RBI in the game from
JR Valadez.Â
Brandon Gutierrez got the start for the Golden Eagles, who used seven pitchers in all.
Luis Fernandez and
Chris Lozano each pitched a scoreless inning.
Waseda had 14 hits, including six extra-base hits and drew 14 walks. Three Wasada pitchers combined to limit the Golden Eagles to six hits and one run with no walks and 15 strikeouts.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday in the opener of a four-game series at defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champion Cal State Monterey Bay.
