CARSON -- Cal State LA's baseball team was unable to hold off Cal State Dominguez Hills in the second game of a four-game series on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles took a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, but the Toros scored five times in the sixth to take the lead and added two more in the eighth for an 8-4 victory at Toro Field.Â
Cal State LA (6-5) got a two-run home run from
Cesar Chavez in the fifth inning to take the lead, but Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-4) got a go-ahead two-run home run from Tristan Usher in the sixth and a solo shot from Nigel Buckley in the eighth to even the series.
Alberto Prado went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Golden Eagles, while Chavez was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Carson Panarisi also had two hits for the Golden Eagles.
Ismael Quintero got the start and held the 4-1 lead until tiring a bit in the sixth. He allowed three hits and three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Brandon Gutierrez pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and gave up five hits and four runs while walking two and striking out three.
Chris Cornelius pitched a scoreless inning to relief to pick up the win for the Toros, while Julian Castro tossed two scoreless innings to finish up. Buckley had a home run and three RBI for the Toros.
Jonathan Manuel got the Golden Eagles on the board in the first inning with a two-run single that drove in
Omar Gonzalez and Prado. With Prado on again in the fifth, Chavez homered to give the Golden Eagles a 4-1 lead. The Toros, though, erased the deficit with their five-run rally in the sixth and Cal State LA was unable to erase the deficit.
Cal State LA will conclude the series with a doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reeder Field.
