Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got a strong performance from
Sarah Olmos on Thursday to highlight the opening day of the ITA West Regional at Colorado Mesa.
Olmos, seeded No. 14, won a pair of matches to advance to the Round of 16, which will be contested Friday morning. Olmos defeated Gaby Carvajal of Biola, 3-6, 6-2 (10-7) in the opening round and then beat Alyssa Zuyat of Concordia, 6-4, 6-3, in the second round. She will face No. 8 Minohi Miyahara of Hawaii Pacific on Friday in the Round of 16.
The doubles team of
Courtlyn Lam and
Savaughna Mayo will be in action on Friday in the consolation quarterfinals. The Cal State LA pair lost to Marie Cool and Hanna Haber of Metro State, 8-4, in the main draw before beating Tiffany Carrillo and Alicia Da Re, 8-5, in the consolation bracket.
Newcomer
Lea Rolland picked up a singles win, outlasting Hannah Lam-Troung of Dominican, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7, in the first round before falling to No. 4 Elodie Busson of Hawaii Pacific, 6-0, 6-2.
Five other Golden Eagles competed in singles matches and four will continue in the consolation bracket on Friday.
Alexandra Hincu lost in the main draw to Isabelle Coman of Colorado Mesa, 6-2, 6-0; Mayo lost to No. 7 Audrey Rafols of Dominican, 6-2, 6-1;
Sakura Kurokawa lost to Lilly McNeill of Biola, 6-4, 6-2;
Hideka Takamura lost to Vini Margaret Bautista of Azusa Pacific, 6-3, 6-2 and Lam lost to No. 15 Makenna Livingston of Colorado Mesa, 6-2, 6-2.
In the consolation bracket, the Golden Eagles went 4-1. Hincu beat Antoinette Schreiber of Dominican, 6-1, 6-1 and will advance to the Round of 16 on Friday. Mayo beat Grace Gorges of Concordia, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, to advance to the Round of 16, Kurokawa beat No. 16 Isabel Heras of Metro State, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-6 and also advances to the Round of 16. and Takamura beat Paige Furin of Colorado Mesa 6-4, 6-3. Lam fell to Kambra Roles of Metro State, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, Olmos and Kurokawa won their first match, 8-0, over Furin and Kristen Thomas of Colorado Mesa, 8-0, before falling in the second round to Colbeyshae Emery and Charlie Croteau of Biola, 8-3. Takamura and Hinku lost to McNeill and Carly Chan of Biola, 8-3, Mayo and Lam fell to Cool and Haber, 8-4.
