2025-26 Cal State LA Women's Tennis - Season Summary
LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team battled to the end of a tough 2025-26 season with the hope that better days are ahead.
The Golden Eagles finished with a disappointing 1-12 record in a season that was hampered with several injuries that prevented them from playing with a healthy lineup. Despite that, the Golden Eagles continued to set a good example of perseverance on the court and accomplishment off it.
A prime example of the Golden Eagles' strong desire and dedication was senior
Hideka Takamura, who was battling through a shoulder injury after two fall tournaments that was thought to be season-ending. Takamura, though, never gave up and returned to the court in late March. She returned at No. 3 doubles with partner
Georgiana Parr and the duo posted a 6-3 victory over a team from Dominican. Although the Golden Eagles ultimately dropped the doubles point and Dominican posted a 4-0 victory after claiming the first three singles decisions, Takamura's return was definitely a highlight for the team.
Takamura was one of two seniors on the young Cal State LA team, along with
Maldini Simic, who also had to battle through adversity in her final year with the program. She was a solid No. 2 singles player for the Golden Eagles and had a 3-5 mark in dual matches while also sharing the team lead in doubles victories with six. She got most of those with
Sofia Pavlova at No. 1 doubles, where the duo went 5-4 overall and had a 3-3 record in six dual match decisions.
Pavlova was the team's No. 1 player in her second season with the program and she recorded four dual match wins and also advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA West Regionals in September. Pavlola and Simic reached the quarterfinals in doubles at the ITA West Regionals as well.
Parr was a steady player for the Golden Eagles in her first year with the program after joining Cal State LA from Academy of Art. She played at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Golden Eagles and played at all three doubles spots, primarily at No. 2 doubles.
Charlotte Downs made strides in her second season with the Golden Eagles and displayed extraordinary competitiveness in a three-set singles match against Westmont that was ultimately decided in a third-set tiebreaker. She also had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles in Cal State LA's victory over Jessup.
Cal State LA also welcomed three more newcomers who made immediate impacts to the program. Junior
Mane Sargsyan played primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles, while freshmen
Macy Hinds and
Ainoha Salo also contributed with Hinds recording a 2-3 record at No. 6 singles and Salo recording a win at No. 4 singles during the season.
Cal State LA's highlight came in a 7-0 victory over Jessup in Ventura. Hinds and Pavlova took a 6-2 decision at No. 2 doubles to help secure the doubles point and Pavlova, Parr, Sargsyan, Salo and Downs recorded singles victories, all in straight sets.
Cal State LA also excelled academically once again with several players expected to earn All-Pac West and ITA academic honors when they are announced later this summer.
Lam, Olmos, Takamura earned All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators, previously known as CoSIDA. Olmos earned the honor for the third time, Takamura earned it for a second time and Lam earned it for the first time.
