FRESNO -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team dropped its second match in two days on Saturday in Fresno.
A day after falling to Dominican, 4-0, in a neutral-site match, the Golden Eagles fell to host Fresno Pacific, 7-0, on Saturday at Haak Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-9) dropped all six singles contests in straight sets against the Sunbirds (9-4) after losing the doubles point.
The bright spot for Cal State LA on Saturday was the No. 3 doubles team of
Macy Hinds and Mare Sargasyan. The Golden Eagles' duo beat Malia Mitchell and Margarita Munoz, 6-4. Fresno Pacific, though, won the other two doubles contests to earn the doubles point.
Maldini Simic and
Sofia Pavlova fell to Fabiana Gonzalez and Yume Ueoku, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles and
Georgiana Parr and
Charlotte Downs fell to Halle Faherty and Jessica McLean, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Pavlova fell to Ueoku at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-0, Simic retired at No. 2 singles after trailing 2-0 to Gonzalez, Parr fell to Faherty at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, Sargsyan retired at No. 4 singles after trailing 3-1 to McLean,
Ainoho Salo fell to Munoz at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Downs fell at No. 6 singles Mitchell, 6-0, 6-3.
On Friday, Cal State LA had a positive result at No. 3 doubles where
Hideka Takamura and Parr picked up a 6-3 win, but Dominican (8-7) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 doubles over Simic and Pavlova, 7-5, and at No. 2 doubles over Sargsyan and Hinds, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles dropped the first three singles match to give Dominican the 4-0 win. The other three singles contests were unfinished after the match was clinched.
Cal State LA will complete its Fresno trip with a match against Stanislaus State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
