Golden Eagles Outscore No. 12 Colorado Mesa

ST. GEORGE, UTAH -- Cal State LA's baseball team came up clutch when it mattered most Sunday.

Jordan Myrow hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning and Micah Hee worked a perfect bottom of the inning to lift the Golden Eagles to an 11-9 win over No. 12 Colorado Mesa and their first victory of the season. Cal State LA (1-3) scored a total of 42 runs in its first four games against Dixie State and Colorado Mesa. All four games were held at Dixie State's Bruce Hurst Field.

Myrow went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI for the Golden Eagles, who picked up nine hits and also took advantage of 10 walks. Jordan Peabody went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Tyler Odekirk was 1-for-4 with two runs scored, Spencer Sundahl scored twice and drove in a run and Anthony Moreno drove in a pair of runs.

Alec Daily started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and allowed six hits and three earned runs in four innings. Miguel Garcia gave up a pair of runs over the next 3 1/3 innings and Hee allowed three hits and one run in 1 2/3 innings, including the 1-2-3 ninth.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after their first two at bats, but the Mavericks chipped away at the deficit and ultimately tied the game in the eighth.

Cal State LA struck for three runs in the first. Odekirk singled to start the game and Peabody was safe on a fielder's choice. Sundahl drew a walk to load the bases and Odekirk scored on a wild pitch. Peabody scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0 and Nate Alam's sacrifice fly drove in Sundahl to give the  Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored four more times in the top of the second to make it 7-0. Myrow, Odekirk and Peabody drew walks to open the inning and Sundahl also drew a walk to force in a run. Michael Tillman delivered a two-run double and Moreno drove in a run with a groundout to complete the rally.

Dixie State, though, scored four times in the bottom of the second and one more in the third to make it 7-5. Cal State LA got a triple from Jesse Burke and a single from Myrow in the top of the fifth to make it 8-5, but Colorado Mesa countered with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-6.

Cal State LA got a run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Moreno, but Colorado Mesa scored three times in the bottom of the inning to tie it.

The Golden Eagles were undeterred and came right back in the ninth to win it. Noe Garcia reached on a throwing error with one out and Myrow followed with his tiebreaking home run, which was Cal State LA's first of the season.

Cal State LA will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a home game against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday at 6 p.m.
