Golden Eagles Win Second Game Against Toros

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team got another well-pitched game and a big swing of the bat from Nic Bereaud to earn a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday.

Joey Deceglie and Gabe Ramos did the job on the mound, limiting the Toros to just one run and Bereaud drilled a three-run home run in the fifth inning and the Golden Eagles went on to a 6-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association win at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (12-7, 9-5 CCAA) won its sixth straight game and second in a row over Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-13, 4-10 CCAA).

The Golden Eagles were holding a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Bereaud hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot that finally gave the Golden Eagles some breathing room. Bereaud now leads the team in runs batted in with 16.

Deceglie was outstanding on the mound, allowing only five hits and one run over six innings. He limited the Toros to just one run in the first inning on a pair of hits and an error that left the Toros with runners on second and third, a run in and only one out. He allowed only three hits over his final five innings. Deceglie walked three and struck out a season-high 10.

Ramos took over after the sixth and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out two.

Cal State LA collected 10 hits in the game. Bereaud, Anthony Ayala and Jorge Garcia had two hits each.

Jordan James and Stephen Kish had two hits each for the Toros. Nick Suniga allowed nine hits and four earned runs over five innings.

The Golden Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the first when Ayala tripled and scored on a groundout by Andre Gregory.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Adam Gordon singled with two outs, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on an error and scored on a passed ball.

Cal State LA struck for three runs in the fifth. Ayala singled with one out and Garcia singled with two outs to set things up for Bereaud, who smacked the big three-run home run to right-centerfield.

Cal State LA added its final run in the eighth when Gordon walked and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Cal State LA will conclude the series with a doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday beginning at noon.
