LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team bounced back nicely from its tough loss to Azusa Pacific earlier this week with a big win over a short-handed Hawaii-Hilo team.
The Golden Eagles captured all seven matches that were contested and recorded a 9-0 win over the Vulcans Saturday at the Cal State L.A. Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (7-7), which was coming off a 5-4 loss at Azusa Pacific on Thursday, took full advantage of a Hawaii-Hilo team that had only five players competing on Saturday.
Cal State L.A. opened the contest by winning both doubles matches.
Alexandra Makashov and
Iris Raileanu rallied from an early deficit to record a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Trixie Croad and Rachel Sugiyama and
Victoria Vo and
Elizaveta Sokolova won at No. 2 doubles over Shanice Kaaikala and Chanelle Pillwale-Wilson, 8-1.
Cal State L.A. won all five singles contests in straight sets.
Sonia Landeros beat Croad, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, Sokolova beat Sugiyama, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, Raileanu beat Kaaikala, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, Vo beat Pillwale-Wilson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and
Snezana Ivanovic beat Shayli Lim, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
Cal State L.A. will return to action with a home match against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
