Golden Eagles Settle For Split To End Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team had mixed results to complete its 2014 season.

The Golden Eagles scored four times in the seventh inning to win the opener of Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader, but they allowed 13 runs in the first two innings to drop the nightcap. Cal State L.A. (16-32, 14-25 CCAA) won the opener, 6-3, while Cal State Dominguez Hills (23-26, 17-23 CCAA) won the nightcap.
 
The Golden Eagles and Toros wound up splitting the season-ending four-game series.

Casey Ryan was 3-for-5 with one run scored in the opener, while Matt Sanchez was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. David Trejo had two hits, including a run-scoring single that broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh. Cody Doyle had two RBI.

Ryan Keller and Brandon Quintero combined to limit the Toros to just three runs in the opener. Keller worked the first five innings and gave up just a pair of unearned runs, while Quintero allowed only one run over the final four innings to get the win.

Keller allowed only three hits over the first five innings while walking two and striking out six. Quintero gave up five hits while walking two and striking out four.

The Golden Eagles surrendered two unearned runs in the first, but tied the game in the fourth. Sanchez drove in the first run with a double, while Niko Garcia singled to tie the game.

Cal State L.A. then took the lead with four runs in the seventh. Trejo's run-scoring single broke the tie and Doyle delivered a two-run double to make it 5-2. Doyle later scored on a wild pitch.

Danny Haley's run-scoring single for the Toros made it 6-3, but Quintero kept Cal State Dominguez Hills scoreless over the final two innings.

In the nightcap, Cal State L.A. fell behind quickly, 13-0. Reed Reznicek and Omar Jimenez each tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Doyle went 1-for-4 with three more RBI, while Luna had two.

A two-run double by Doyle got the Golden Eagles on the board in the third, while Andrew Montanari had a run-scoring single to start a four-run rally in the fifth. Doyle added a run-scoring groundout and Luna contributed a two-run single.

Garcia scored a pair of runs.
