Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAYWARD -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team was unable to snap its losing streak in a pair of tightly-contested contests at Cal State East Bay.

The Golden Eagles came up short in the opener, 4-2, and then lost the nightcap, 4-3, when Cal State East Bay pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth. Cal State L.A. (14-30, 12-23 CCAA) saw its losing streak stretched to 15 games, while Cal State East Bay (27-17, 21-15 CCAA) continued its late-season push with the four-game series sweep.

David Trejo was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the opener, while Casey Ryan also also drove in a run. Kyle Peralta was 1-for-3 with one run scored and Trent Zaks also scored a run. David Armas pitched well in relief, finishing the game with three scoreless innings. He allowed only one hit, walked one and struck out four. Adan Cabrales started and allowed five hits and three runs over three innings, while Chris Oropesa allowed three hits and one run over two innings.

Cal State East Bay's Michael Pope allowed three hits and two runs over nine innings and became the third straight pitcher for the Pioneers to toss a complete game.

The Golden Eagles fell behind, 3-0, before breaking through with single runs in the third and sixth innings. Ryan's groundout scored Zaks in the third inning to make it 3-1 and Trejo's run-scoring single in the sixth made it 4-2.

In the nightcap, Manny Acosta delivered a game-tying run-scoring single in the top of the seventh to get the game into extra innings, but the Pioneers got a game-winning double from Buchanan in the eighth inning to complete the sweep. Acosta was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, Cody Doyle was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Niko Garcia was 2-for-3.

Brandon Quintero started for the Golden Eagles and gave up four hits and two earned runs over three innings. Jordan Cavazos pitched well in relief and pitched four scoreless innings before the Pioneers got the two-out run in the eighth to win it.

Doyle had a run-scoring single to drive in Acosta with the game's first run in the top of the first, but Cal State East Bay scored twice in the first and once in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Cal State L.A. made it 3-2 in the third when Trejo singled in Peralta and the score remained that way until Acosta's clutch two-out single in the seventh that drove in Kevin Fontana.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Thursday night with a home game against Cal State Dominguez Hills beginning at 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles will host the Toros on Friday night at 6 p.m. before concluding the season with a doubleheader in Carson on Saturday.
