Box Score SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team snapped out of its recent offensive funk on Friday with a big victory over Cal State San Bernardino.
The Golden Eagles erupted for 10 runs in the first four innings and went on to a 13-4 win over the Coyotes in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at Fiscalini Field. Cal State L.A. (12-15, 10-11 CCAA) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. The Golden Eagles had scored only one run in those three games.
Kyle Peralta went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and one RBI.
Trent Zaks was 2-for-4 with two RBI,
Rodrigo Martinez was 3-for-5 and
Manny Acosta was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Brandon Quintero pitched five strong innings to pick up the win for the Golden Eagles. Quintero (4-4) gave up just four hits and one run while walking two and striking out four.
Chris Oropesa tossed two scoreless innings of relief,
Shawn Meusborn retired the Coyotes in the eighth inning and
Manny Acosta allowed only an unearned run in the ninth inning to complete the win.
Nolan Almodovar, William Ouellette and Brian Lockey had two hits each for Cal State San Bernardino (9-19, 7-11 CCAA).
The Golden Eagles took early control of the game with 10 runs in their first four at bats.
Cal State L.A. took a 2-0 lead in the first.
Casey Ryan singled, took third on a double by Peralta and scored on a wild pitch. Peralta scored on a groundout by
Cody Doyle.
The Golden Eagles scored three more times in the third. Acosta walked and took third on a ground-rule double by Peralta. Doyle was intentionally walked to load the bases and Zaks followed with a two-run single and
Drew Vanisi delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
The Golden Eagles added five more runs in the fifth inning. Peralta and
Niko Garcia had run-scoring singles to highlight the inning.
Cal State L.A. got two-out run-scoring singles from Martinez and Acosta in the sixth inning to take a 12-1 lead.
Jesus Cuevas drove in Peralta in the seventh to make it 13-1.
Cal State L.A. had 14 hits in the game.
Cal State L.A. will conclude the four-game series with Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday in a doubleheader at Reeder Field that will begin at noon.
