FRESNO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team found itself on the short end of another tight match with a nationally-ranked NCAA Division II program.
The Golden Eagles battled once again on nearly even terms with Fresno Pacific before falling, 5-4, Saturday afternoon in Fresno. Cal State L.A. also lost a tight decision to Fresno Pacific last season in Los Angeles.
The Golden Eagles won just one of the three doubles matches, prevailing at No. 3 doubles where
Samantha SIsmundo and
Sevana Zargarian beat Anna Mikhaylova and Nicole Simoni, 9-7.
Cal State L.A. then managed three wins in the six singles contests.
Jill Sangria won at No. 4 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 over Erika Januskova,
Sydney Postal won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2 over Anna Mikhaylova and
Tiffany Leung won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Erin Carlson.
The Golden Eagles fell in competitive matches in the top three spots.
Christie Lau lost at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-3, to Petra Jurova,
Leora Hemmerich lost at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2, to Marie Boura and
Tiffani Shaik fell at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-1, to Katarena Palivets.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday, March 23, with a home match against NCAA Division I Colorado State.
