SEASIDE -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team was forced to settle for a California Collegiate Athletic Association series split for the second week in a row after falling to Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles were unable to build upon Friday's doubleheader sweep and lost to the Otters, 13-6, at the Otter Sports Complex. Cal State L.A. (15-15, 11-13 CCAA) fell behind 4-0 after two innings and never could catch up. Cal State Monterey Bay (18-18, 12-14 CCAA) scored three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Brian Compton and
Samuel Arce had two hits each for the Golden Eagles, while
Joe Park, #Cliff Quick#,
Manny Acosta, Arce and
Jeremy Weber drove in runs.
Brian Haggett and Jason Merjano had three RBI each, while Danny Nelson and Ty Morris had three hits each.
The Otters took quick control by scoring three runs in the first and one in the second. Cal State L.A. put together a three-run rally in the fourth inning to pull to within one run. Duran singled and took third on a double by
Nick Rodarte. Duran scored on a groundout by Quick, Acosta got an RBI when he reached base on an error and he later scored on a wild pitch.
The Otters, though, scored three times in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-3.
Cal State L.A. scored twice in the sixth to make it 7-5. Compton singled and moved to third on a double by Arce. Weber had an RBI groundout and Park singled in a run for the Golden Eagles.
Once again, though, Cal State Monterey Bay responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to boost its lead back to 10-5.
Cal State L.A. scored its final run in the seventh. Arce drove in the run when he reached base on an error.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with the opener of a four-game series against Sonoma State at Reeder Field beginning at 6 p.m.
