Game 1 Box

Game 2 Box

SEASIDE – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team turned things around in a hurry on Friday and picked up two California Collegiate Athletic Association victories as a result.

After allowing 17 runs in a series-opening loss to Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday, the Golden Eagles permitted only two runs in a Friday doubleheader and posted 3-0 and 9-2 wins at the Otter Sports Complex.

Ryan Santhon blanked the Otters over eight innings in the opener and Kameron Krise got the Golden Eagles out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the ninth to pick up his first save. Nick Rodarte slugged a three-run home run in the sixth inning to account for all the scoring in the game.

In the nightcap, Gabriel Asakura allowed eight hits and only two runs over six innings to get the win. Daniel Duran, who hit a home run earlier in the game, finished up in the seventh inning to close out the doubleheader sweep.

Cal State L.A. (15-14, 11-12 CCAA) had 13 hits in the nightcap, including two each from Duran, Cliff Quick, Manny Acosta and Jeremy Weber. The Golden Eagles got five runs in the second inning to take a quick 6-0 lead.

Cal State Monterey Bay (18-19, 11-16 CCAA) got two hits each from Brian Haggett and Jared DeCastro in the nightcap. Haggert hit a solo home run for one of the Otters' two runs on the day.

Santhon was locked in a scoreless duel with Cal State Monterey Bay's Donny Medlinger through five innings in the opener. Joe Park and Duran led off the sixth with singles and Rodarte hit his third home run of the series to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. Cal State L.A. sailed into the ninth inning with the three-run lead, but the Otters loaded the bases with no one out after three straight singles. Krise then came on and got a force out at home and a game-ending double play from the two batters he faced.

In the nightcap, Cal State L.A. took early control. Duran doubled in a run to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first and the Golden Eagles scored five times in the second. Samuel Arce singled in the first run of the inning and Scott Masik grounded into a force to score the second run. Arce scored on a double play ball and Duran followed with a two-run home run to complete the five-run rally.

Cal State L.A. added two runs in the fifth after back-to-back singles from Rodarte and Quick and a grounder from Acosta and a run-scoring single by Weber. Acosta drove in the Golden Eagles' final run in the sixth on a groundout by Acosta.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with the finale of the four-game series at Cal State Monterey Bay beginning at 11 a.m.
