LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team saw its unbeaten string come to an end Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game.

The Golden Eagles, ranked seventh in the nation, allowed a goal in each half and were blanked by Cal State Dominguez Hills, 2-0, Sunday at Jesse Owens Stadium. Cal State L.A. (5-1-2, 3-1-2) suffered its first shutout and first loss ofthe season.

For the second straight Sunday, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a 2-0 hole in the second half and, once again, Cal State L.A. was able to pressure its opponent in the latter stages of the match. Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-2-1, 3-2-1 CCAA), though, never wavored and preserved its shutout win. Last Sunday, Cal State L.A. ralled for two goals in the final 10 minutes to salvage a 2-2 tie with Chico State.

Cal State L.A. had a 19-13 advantage in shots, while Cal State Dominguez Hills had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Markus Dickerson made five saves for the Toros, while Jose Martinez made four saves for the Golden Eagles.

Billy Gutierrez and Jordan Rover had goals for the Toros.

Antti Arvola had the first good chance for the Golden Eagles just six minutes into the game when he beat Dickerson to a loose ball in the box. He was at a sharp angle, though, and his shot hit the side of the net.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had a golden opportunity in the 10th minute when Rover came in on a breakaway. Martinez came out and deflected the shot, which was eventually cleared out of danger by Cal State L.A.'s #Aurelio Sanchez, Jr.#

The Toros scored their first goal in the 35th minute on a tremendous shot by Gutierrez. Antonio Garcia collected a free ball and centered the ball toward Gutierrez. He received the ball from outside the box and drilled a shot into the upper corner of the net. It was his second goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles pressured early in the second half and a strong bid by Arvola hit the post in the 50th minute.

Cal State Dominguez Hills made it 2-0 in the 56th minute when Rover was sent in after a nice through ball from Gutierrez. Martinez was caught half-way and Rover was able to get to the ball first and knock the ball into the net with a one-touch finish.

Dickerson came up with a big save in the 65th minute he made a diving, fingertip save of a shot by Arvola, who was sent in by #Timo Schwar#. Osvaldo Lopez had a bid a few minutes later, but his shot from close range sailed just over the crossbar.

Martinez made a sensational save to keep it at 2-0 in the 77th minute when he made a fingertip save on a shot by Connor Brandt and Victor Cervantes had a chance for the Toros that went wide.

Cal State L.A. made a frantic bid to get back into the contest in the waning minutes of regulation. Rosario Bras beat Dickerson to a ball and his header at full speed went wide. Marvin Sandoval got to another free ball in the box a few minutes later and centered the ball to Bras, but Dickerson recovered to make the save.

The Golden Eagles also had two late corner kicks, but could not convert.

Cal State L.A. will now play its next six games on the road, beginning with a match Friday at Cal Poly Pomona.
