Golden Eagles Post Win Over Concordia-Irvine

Box Score

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team used some outstanding pitching and timely hitting to post a non-conference victory Monday night at Reeder Field.

Brian Dearth and three relievers combined to limit Concordia-Irvine to one run and the Golden Eagles got a home run from Jesus Campos to highlight the offense in a 6-1 win over the Eagles. Cal State L.A. (27-14) picked up its second win of the season over Concordia-Irvine (16-22).

Dearth was effective over five innings, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters. Only Isaac Morales with 11 has recorded more strikeouts in a game this season for the Golden Eagles.

Danny DeSantiago followed with a scoreless inning of relief, Camron Collard pitched two scoreless innings and Travis McBride worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish up.

Campos had a solo home run in the eighth inning and also added a double to highlight an 11-hit attack for the Golden Eagles.

Michael Gonzalez, Pete Lemone and Kyle Konicek each picked up two hits to lead Concordia-Irvine's eight-hit attack. Konicek delivered a run-scoring single in the opening inning to drive in Gonzalez with the Eagles' only run.

Cal State L.A. answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Chris Lloyd singled, stole second, took third on a fly to right by Brendan McQuaid and scored on a single by Toby Davis.

The Golden Eagles took the lead for good in the fifth inning with an unearned run against Concordia starter Richard Barrett. Max Moya doubled in McQuaid with the go-ahead run.

Cal State L.A. added two runs in the seventh inning on a two-run triple by Mario Ramirez and the Golden Eagles rounded out the scoring with two more runs in the eighth. Campos hit his second home run of the season and Chris Matzner was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score when Matt Miraldi's line-drive to right field was dropped for an error.
Campos, Moya and Lloyd had two hits each for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. will return to action a week from Thursday in the opener of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal Poly Pomona.
