Summary

Biography

2009: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the program. Earned All-America honors in the triple jump in indoor and outdoor track. Won a California Collegiate Athletic Association championship in the triple jump and placed fifth in the nation. Earned All-CCAA honors in the 4x100 relay after finishing second as a team. Also placed seventh in the long jump. Had best marks of 18-1 in the long jump, 40-1.25 in the triple jump, 12.68 in the 100 and 25.63 in the 200. Also had a fantastic indoor season and placed fourth in the nation in the triple jump for a second straight year. Had best marks of 18-11.75 in the long jump and 39-10.75 in the triple jump. For her career, had best marks of 18-9 in the long jump and 40-2 in the triple jump in outdoor track and 18-11.75 in the long jump and 39-1 in the triple jump in indoor track  Finished her career No. 2 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the triple jump and No. 4 all-time in the long jump in indoor track and No. 5 all-time in the triple jump and No. 10 all-time as part of the 4x100 relay team in outdoor track.. For her career, had a total of four All-America and five All-CCAA awards.

2008: Earned her second All-America award and her first in indoor track and field when she finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-1. Had a successful outdoor season as well and qualified for the nationals in the triple jump, where she finished 13th in the nation. Earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors after finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 38-9. Had best marks of 18-9 in the long jump and 39-4 in the triple jump.

2007: Earned All-America honors in outdoor track and field for the Golden Eagles after finishing fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-10.75. Earned All-CCAA honorable mention in the long jump and triple jump after finishing third in both events with marks of 18-5.25 and 38-7.50.

2006: Finished seventh in the conference in the triple jump as a freshman with a mark of 37-11.25 and eighth in the long jump with a mark of 17-9.50.

At University High School: Was a two-time team Most Valuable Player on the track and field team and the best defensive player for the basketball squad.

Personal: Daughter of Melinda Backus. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys dancing and skating. Lists finishing fifth and earning All-America honors at nationals as her most exciting experience in sports.
