Biography

2010: Had a strong indoor season for the Golden Eagles to complete her outstanding career with the program. Earned All-America honors after finishing eighth as a part of Cal State L.A.'s 4x400 relay team. Also finished ninth in the nation in the long jump and qualified for nationals in the pentathlon. Had best marks of 25.35 in the 200, 2:26.60 in the 800, 8.96 in the 60 hurdles, 5-2.25 in the high jump, 19-1.50 in the long jump, 32-0 in the shot put and 3,584 points in the pentathlon. For her career, had best marks of 9.24 in the 60, 25.35 in the 200, 2:26.60 in the 800, 5-2.25 in the high jump, 19-1.50 in the long jump, 32-0 in the shot put and 3,584 points in the pentathlon. Finished her indoor career No. 1 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the pentathlon, No. 2 all-time in the 60 hurdles, No. 2 all-time in the long jump, No. 3 all-time in the high jump, No. 4 all-time in the 200 and No. 2 and No. 5 as part of 4x400 relay teams.

2009: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the outdoor track and field program. Earned All-America honors in a pair of events. Finished sixth in the nation in the heptathlon and third in the nation as part of Cal State L.A.'s 4x100 relay team. Earned three All-California Collegiate Athletic Association awards after finishing third in the heptathlon and second as part of Cal State L.A.'s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Also finished fourth in the long jump, sixth in the 100, eighth in the triple jump and ninth in the 200. Had best marks of 12.05 in the 100, 24.54 in the 200, 2:15.49 in the 800, 14.78 in the 100 hurdles, 5-3 in the high jump, 18-7.75 in the long jump, 35-7.75 in the triple jump, 34-1.25 in the shot put, 99-0 in the javelin and 5,079 ;points in the heptathlon. Also had a strong indoor season. Recorded 3,446 points in the pentathlon. Had best marks of 25.64 in the 200, 17-11.50 in the long jump, For her outdoor career, had best marks of 12.05 in the 100, 24.54 in the 200, 2:15.84 in the 800, 14.78 in the 100 hurdles, 5-3 in the high jump, 19-6 in the long jump, 35-5.75 in the triple jump, 34-1.25 in the shot put, 99-0 in the javelin and 5,079 in the heptathlon. Finished her outdoor career No. 1 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the heptathlon, No. 9 in the long jump and No. 10 as part of the 4x400 relay team. 

2008: Had a tremendous first season with the Golden Eagles and was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Newcomer of the Year. Earned All-CCAA honors after finishing second in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters. Also placed fourth in the heptathlon and sixth in the long jump. Had the team’s top marks in the 100 (12.14), 200 (24.75), 100 hurdles (15.37), javelin 86-1) and heptathlon (4,587). Best time in the 200 was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

At Long Beach City College: Earned the Freshman Award and athletic and academic scholarship awards.

In High School: Competed in softball, netball, soccer, cross country and track and field. Was the interschool champion in the long jump and the school’s Most Outstanding Athlete.

Personal: Daughter of Brent Smith. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys fishing, cliff jumping, board games, soaking up the sun, reading a good James Patterson novel and playing cricket. Lists competing in her first heptathlon at Cal State L.A. and breaking her national record and qualifying for the 2008 CAC Championships in Mexico as her most exciting experiences in sports.
