Box Score OAKLAND -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got a quick two-match road trip off to a promising start Friday at Holy Names.
The Golden Eagles picked up the doubles point and five of six singles contests to record a 6-1 win over the Hawks at Mills College. Cal State LA (3-10) earned its first road win of the season.
The Golden Eagles got the doubles point, which came down to the wire. Cal State LA got a walkover at No. 3 doubles for
Savaughna Mayo and
Courtlyn Lam due to Holy Names not having enough players to field a team.
Sarah Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa dropped a hard-fought 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles, but
Hideka Takamura and
Alexandra Hincu pulled out a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles over Holy Names' Ana Rios and Deepalakshmi Varnarja at No. 2 doubles to give Cal State LA the point.
Cal State LA picked up walkover points at No. 5 singles with Lam and No. 6 singles with Mayo and took the top three singles matches as well. Olmos beat Vanaraja, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, Kurokawa beat Ella Lavander at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-1 and Takamura beat Rios, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.
Hincu dropped a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles in a great match against Lucy Rekasch, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a key match at Dominican.
