SAN DIEGO -- Cal State LA's women's golf team made an impressive move during the final day of the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational Tuesday at the Rancho Bernardino Inn Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles improved their team score by 10 strokes and climbed from eighth place to fifth in the final team standings. The Golden Eagles, after an opening round 321, shot a second-round 311 to jump past three competitors, including two from the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State LA finished with a team score of 632.

Cal State San Marcos of the CCAA won the event with a score of 597. Point Loma and Biola tied for second at 606 and Academy of Art was fourth at 611.

Cal State LA jumped ahead of sixth-place Cal State Monterey Bay (634), Dominican (636) and Chico State (642). Cal State East Bay was ninth at 643.

Caitlyn Jimenez shot her second straight round of 78 and finished 22nd in the field with a score of 156 for the top Cal State LA performance.

Marie Dean had the Golden Eagles' low round of the day on Tuesday with a 75 and jumped up to a tie for 25th with a two-day score of 158.

Pratima Sherpa had a strong first tournament for Cal State LA. She shot a second-round 79 and finished in a tie for 28th overall with a score of 159. Morgan Sjoerdsma shot a second-round 81 to finish in a tie for 31st with a score of 161, while Emily Wang shot a second-round 79 to finish in a tie for 37th with a score of 163.

Cal State LA also got a strong outing from Caleigh Clark, who shot back-to-back rounds of 80 and finished in a tie for 30th with a score of 160. She was one of three Golden Eagles competing as individuals. Issa Murguia finished in a tie for 47th with a score of 167 and Lisa Duran finished 56th with a score of 178.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sept. 27 at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
