Box Score LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team ran into a tough Pomona-Pitzer squad and came up short in the Golden Eagles' 2020 home opener Saturday at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point and lost the first three singles matches to be completed in a 4-0 defeat to the Sagehens in a non-conference match. Cal State LA (2-1) was leading two of the singles matches that were not completed after Pomona-Pitzer clinched the match. The Sagehens had a second match later in the day.
Berta Acero had a 6-3, 4-2 lead at No. 5 singles and
Mariko Sagara had a 7-5, 2-1 lead at No. 6 singles when the matches were halted.
Amanda Schneider and
Chelsey Ruiz lost a tough battle at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, to Jane Marcus and Georgia Ryan and
Noa Davico and
Mariko Sagara fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, to Maria Lyven and Jay Jim.
In the singles matches that were completed, Davico fell at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, to Lyven, Schneider fell at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2 to Ryan and Ruiz fell at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4, to Marcus.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a road match at UC San Diego.
