Box Score OJAI -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team made "Joan Johnson Day" a winning one on Friday in Ojai.
The Golden Eagles honored the longtime coach/administrator before their match against Westmont at the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai. The pre-match festivities included the major of Ojai and first-year Cal State LA head coach
Richard Gallien said he had hoped to make Friday an annual event.
Cal State LA took both of the completed doubles matches to earn the doubles point and then won four of the six singles contests to earn a 5-2 decision.Â
Chelsey Ruiz and
Amanda Schneider won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, and
Noa Davico and
Mariko Sagara won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3 and
Sakura Kurokawa and
Berta Acero were leading at No. 3 doubles, 5-2, when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles, Schneider won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Kurokawa won at No. 4 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, Acero won at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Sagara won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Cal State LA will return to action on Monday at Caltech.
