LONG BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team battled through a pair of tough matches Tuesday in Long Beach.
The Golden Eagles dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 8 Long Beach State and followed that up with a 4-1 loss to Long Beach City College in matches played at the Long Beach State Sand Courts. Cal State LA (1-4) got a win from No. 1 pairs
Karla Santos and
Alejandra Negron to highlight the day.
Cal State LA opened the day against nationally-ranked Long Beach State. Santos and Negron fell to Long Beach State's No. 1 pair of Mari Molina and Megan Kruidhof, 21-11, 21-8.
Janessa Mata and
Jessica Kaeka fell at No. 2 pairs, 21-11, 21-6 to Long Beach State's Nicci Reinking and Zoe Konstantopoulou,
Sifa Faaiu and
Daisy Crenshaw fell at No. 3 pairs of Long Beach State's Allie Loitz and Sydney Stevens, 21-9, 21-8,
Victoria Duarte and
Jeshmarie Suarez fell at No. 4 pairs to Kendra Koelsch and Claire Newlander, 21-17, 21-4 and
Caitlyn Bato and
Adriana Maldonado fell at No. 5 pairs to Tyler Spriggs and Michelle Mason, 21-8, 21-9.
Cal State LA had a tight battle against Long Beach City College. Santos and Negron picked up the win at No. 1 pairs, 22-20, 21-16, over Sierra Davis and Jessica Blakeman. Mata and Kaeka fell at No. 2 pairs to Kylee Irwin-Paz and Brooklyn Mize, 21-14, 24-22, Faaiu and Crenshaw fell at No. 3 pairs to Isabella Alvarez and Doris Woods, 24-22, 21-10, Duarte and Suarez fell at No. 4 pairs to Kaitlyn Peterson and Elsa Woods, 21-19, 21-11 and Bato and Maldonado fell at No. 5 pairs to Brooke Gonsalves and Emma Harris, 21-18, 25-23.
Cal State LA will return to action at Cal State Northridge on March 5.
