HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team got the 2026 season underway with a match against Hope International in Huntington Beach.

The Golden Eagles got a win at No. 1 pairs from Samarah DaCoud and Teegan Charapata, but that was their only point in a 4-1 loss to Hope International at the Brookhurst & PCH Courts. DaCoud, who earned All-Region honors for the Golden Eagles in the fall, got her beach season off to a strong start, with Charapata, who is a newcomer to the Cal State LA program.

Zuhal Cetin and Juliana Speiski dropped a hard-fought battle at No. 2 pairs to Bryce Swain and Sabrina Galassi, 22-20, 21-9, Avalon Heintz and Havannah Vogel fell at No. 3 pairs to Carmelina Infante and Maci Hendry,m 21-9, 21-14, Seriah Demski and Anaiya Cooper fell at No. 4 pairs to Rita Nua and Cozette Zimmerman, 21-8, 21-15, and McKinley Chase and Arielle Chandler fell at No. 5 pairs to Macy Thornburg and Phoebe Sebby, 21-12, 21-9. In an exhibition match, Oluwatoyin Sunday and Naomi Jackson fell to Vianka Martinez and Kara Matthews, 21-12, 21-14

Cal State LA will head back to Huntington Beach on Saturday with matches against Vanguard and Mira Costa.
