HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team returned to the sand on Saturday and the Golden Eagles fell to host Vanguard in a competitive battle.

The Golden Eagles got a victory from the No. 2 pairs team of Juliana Speiski and Zuhal Cetin, but the Lions won the other four contests to post a 4-1 victory at the at the Brookhurst & PCH Courts. Speiski and Cetin gave the Golden Eagles a brief 1-0 lead as their match was the first off the courts. The Cal State LA pair defeated Thea Snider and Josephine Springer, 21-19, 21-18.

Seriah Demski and Anaiya Cooper were involved in the match of the day at No. 4 pairs as they took the opening set before falling in a tight three-set match to Jenae Moore and Anne Mayfield, who rallied for a 19-21, 21-10, 15-13 victory.

Cal State LA's top pair of Samarah DaCoud and Teegan Charapata fell to Thea Snider and Josephine Springer, 21-13, 21-14, Avalon Heintz and Havannah Vogel fell to Avery Bennett and Hayden Johnson at No. 3 pairs, 21-8, 21-12 and Arielle Chandler and McKinley Chase fell at No. 5 pairs to Jaydn Starling and Gianna Pecile, 21-13, 21-13.

The Golden Eagles finished the day with a 5-0 loss to Mira Costa College in an exhibition match that does not count on Cal State LA's season record.

Cal State LA will return to action on Feb. 13 with matches against Corban and The Master's in Santa Clarita.
